In the area of directing, ifs offers a major in directing in the bachelor program film. In addition, there are regular workshops on selected topics addressed to directors within the framework of the ifs continuing education camps. Directors can also apply for the extra-occupational Masterclass Non-Fiction training program and the Digital Narratives Master's program.

Only through a very personal, artistic vision do good directors bring their stories to life in front of the camera. In the special field of directing, it is important to recognize this specific talent, to further develop it and to express it in an individual artistic handwriting. Along the way, the students learn to design and coordinate all aspects of the staging: from script to drama, image and sound design, scenery and montage to music and visual effects - in practical exercises and in project work with the students of others professional priorities. Parallel to the work on the fictional film, the students deal with the documentary narrative and thus with the entire field of tension between fiction and reality and the wide range of related aesthetic forms of expression. It is also about dealing with social contexts. In addition to learning about craftsmanship and competencies, this way creates an understanding of the art and interaction of the trades involved - in order to be able to confidently assume responsibility for a team in the future.
