Financial and Business Mathematics

Chemnitz University of Technology

Undergraduate Winter Semester

Mathematics is a science that uses logic to examine self-created abstract structures for their properties and patterns through logical definitions. Students receive proven basic training in analysis and linear algebra. In addition, the course is characterized by its application in economics and finance, imparting basic knowledge in various disciplines of economic and financial mathematics (optimization, stochastics, statistics), which are taught over the course of the course. They are essential for the confident handling of financial products, actuarial mathematics or the modern theory of financial markets. In addition, they enable the successful processing of problems from business, logistics, trade or industry, as is common in operations research using mathematical modeling tools. There is also an initial opportunity to specialize a little further in an area. The inclusion of finance and economics subjects, such as finance, accounting, micro and macroeconomics, production and procurement management, is what makes this essentially mathematical course particularly special. Even in compulsory mathematical modules, emphasis is placed on a clear reference to financial and economic applications.
