The aim of the study program is, in addition to the scientific demands of the subject, to provide application-oriented training for the professional practice of graduates who take on responsible tasks in different areas. On the basis of broad specialist knowledge and various key competencies, the graduates are able to cope with the complex tasks of the international communication and media industry in their journalistic, economic and media-technical dimensions and to participate independently in integrated media production and marketing processes in the company in a team-oriented and success-oriented manner .

The scientific basics imparted in the study program also enable you to work on the final thesis and, together with the bachelor's degree, to further qualify in master's programs


The focus of the media management course is, in addition to the development of personal and social skills, also the entrepreneurial, media-market economy and legal conditions and processes of media production and marketing. In addition, there is a well-founded journalistic / journalistic know-how from researching, organizing and writing to the design of media offers. The classic and new media disciplines are not side by side, but are linked by certain modules in the sense of a modern "cross-media" exploitation chain.

By working on their own scientific tasks, the students first get to know methods of scientific work . You are familiar with the strategies of searching for sources and literature and will be able to assess and reflect on various sources. In addition, there are methods of citing and documenting as well as the presentation and moderation of scientific results. An introduction to the basics of statistics contributes to the development of application-oriented scientific analysis skills.

After completing the course, the students have in-depth technical, methodological and specialist skills in media management. In addition, the study program aims to develop various overarching competencies . This includes, for example, communication and journalistic mediation skills. In viewing and comparing media processes and products, the students continue to develop their analysis, criticism and reflection skills. You are able to organize projects in a solution-oriented manner and plan them realistically. Furthermore, they develop social and intercultural skills by working together on projects and getting to know international media systems. The associated assumption of responsibility, especially in internships, project work and, if necessary, stays abroad, enables students to participate in civic participation. They are able to represent the interests of their fellow students or colleagues in the context of discussions or presentations and can proceed diplomatically and democratically in debates. Tutoring for younger students also gives them the opportunity to express their social commitment. The ability of the degree program to familiarize oneself with a complex topic in a targeted and multi-perspective manner also trains the students' skills in problem-solving and reflective handling of social debates. In this way, their sense of civic participation is developed on various levels.

With regard to subject-specific knowledge and skills , students are made familiar with journalistic basics and production techniques. After completing the study program, you will know the basics of business and economics and understand the importance of economic contexts for media management. Furthermore, the students are able to evaluate and compare the results of empirical communication research and to conduct communication research themselves. Based on the basics of business mathematics and computer science, the students are further able to apply a broad overview of media practice, media functions and media processes in their work. Ultimately, the students learn strategies of public relations, media education and comparative marketing in order to enable a combination of different skills in terms of media management.
