Media Studies

The Bachelor's degree in Media Studies aims to provide students with basic knowledge of the subject areas, theories, methods, analysis tools and design criteria of the subject. The combination of theoretical models with historical perspectives and practical projects forms a multi-perspective, scientific basis for reflection in order to make a sound assessment of the media in its technical, social, institutional, cultural and aesthetic dimensions and to classify them in larger contexts.

Media Studies: Does that suit me?

Media enable communication between people. Almost everything we know comes from media such as books, television, films or the Internet. The media offer us information and entertainment, education and fun. But what does it mean to live in a media world in which we increasingly feel connected through media and exchange with each other? In which knowledge is conveyed to us in diverse media forms and we are flooded with information? In which our understanding of work and leisure, of economy and politics is shaped and changed by the media? In order to deal with these diverse questions, the course offers a wide range of topics, in which content and aesthetic, equipment and institutional as well as economic aspects are equally considered. Theoretical reflections on the general understanding of the media and detailed analyzes of specific media phenomena are just as important as the imparting of technical and economic basics as well as media practical skills. The central concern is to promote a scientific understanding of the media in this way, which qualifies equally for different professions in the media area as well as for an in-depth master's degree.
