Digital media are having an ever greater impact on society. It is therefore vital for companies to keep pace, especially as they are increasingly reaching their target groups via online media. They therefore need experts who keep an eye on technological developments and at the same time reflect on these interactions with social trends and make strategic use of them. Their education is in the Master‘s programme „Media, Technology and Society“. The graduates are experts in the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of new forms of communication, media and study methods for journalism and strategic communication. At the same time, they are sensitized to the ethical dimensions of digitization, for example with regard to the use of data.
We live in times of rapid change and major societal and technological transformations. Media are involved in this change in different roles, sometimes accompanying and reinforcing it, sometimes documenting and explaining it.
In times of technological and social disruption, media are particularly challenged. On the one hand, they themselves are doubly affected: Social change is altering their target groups and the climate in which they operate. Technological change is revolutionizing their very production conditions.
Furthermore, it is part of their task to mediate between technology and society and to help ensure that social considerations are not neglected in the application of new technologies. This is especially true when surrounding natural conditions pose additional challenges, for example in the face of climate change, species extinction or epidemics.
