Theatre Studies

Free University of Berlin

Undergraduate Winter Semester

Theater studies deals with the history, aesthetics and theory of theater or with theatrical forms as well as their conditions of origin and effect. Because of the diversity of these forms different arts, especially literature, painting, dance and music as well as other media and different cultural systems are involved, the mentioned objects can only be understood interdisciplinary.

At the Institute for Theater Studies of the Free University of Berlin, the three areas of contemporary theater, theater history as well as theory and aesthetics are examined. They are explored under historical, analytical, theoretical and aesthetic as well as comparative perspectives. An artistic or technical education does not take place.

The 60 LP module offer does not cover the entire subject of the study (see Study Structure).
