Advantages of Admission to German Universities after the International Baccalaureate (IB-Diploma)
There are specific advantages and features when pursuing higher education in Germany after completing the International Baccalaureate program and obtaining the corresponding diploma (IB-Diploma).
Choice of Language of Instruction
In many cases, after obtaining the IB-Diploma and completing 12 years of full-time schooling, you can apply directly to German universities for bachelor’s, diploma, or state exam programs in the same field in which you graduated. Moreover, you can study in Germany either in German or in English (depending on the chosen program).
Admission without Exams
Admission to German universities is based on a set of documents, usually without exams. The university reviews your application and the submitted documents and makes a decision based on them. You do not need to travel to Germany to submit your application; everything can be done almost without leaving home. The only exception is admission to creative programs, for which an additional creative contest may be held. Also, the IB-Diploma does not always allow direct university admission; if admission to a Studienkolleg is necessary, you will also have to take an entrance exam.
Unlimited Choice of Majors
When applying to a German university after obtaining the IB-Diploma, completing 12 years of full-time schooling, and achieving a "Higher Level" grade in Mathematics, you can apply directly for a bachelor’s program in any major. You can also choose any major when applying to a Studienkolleg. Unfortunately, in other cases, graduates of the International Baccalaureate program are limited in their career choices and can only apply for fields related to their IB specialization.
After obtaining the IB-Diploma, we recommend that you first undergo Career Guidance to determine the most suitable (and promising) field of study in a German university for you. Based on that, you can decide whether you can apply directly for a bachelor’s program in Germany or if you need to first attend a Studienkolleg.

The opportunities for admission to a German university after the International Baccalaureate and obtaining the IB-Diploma largely depend on the type of diploma you received and the results achieved.
ANY BACHELOR'S
If you have completed 12 years of full-time schooling, obtained the IB-Diploma, and received a "Higher Level" grade in Mathematics, then your education is equivalent to the German school system, and you can directly apply for a bachelor's program in Germany in any field.

If you have completed 12 years of full-time schooling, obtained the IB-Diploma, received a "Standard Level" grade in Mathematics, and a "Higher Level" grade in Natural Sciences, then you can directly apply for a bachelor's program in Germany with a limited selection of majors.
Admission to Bachelor's Learn More11 CLASSES + IB
If you have completed 11 years of schooling and obtained the IB-Diploma or IB-Diploma grades below "Higher Level", then your education does not meet the standards of the German school system, and you will need to attend a Studienkolleg in Germany before applying to a German university to catch up with the 12th-grade curriculum.

If you have completed 12 years of full-time schooling, obtained the IB-Diploma, received a "Standard Level" grade in Mathematics, and a "Higher Level" grade in Natural Sciences, but wish to study in majors with a mathematical or natural science focus, you will need to attend a Studienkolleg in that field.
