Part of the industrial engineering course is an interdisciplinary project. As part of the cross-location "virtual seminar", the students develop a business plan together with fellow students from other universities (e.g. TU Dresden, University of Osnabrück). It is important to get to know and evaluate the possibilities of virtual project management using the example of creating a business plan.

First of all, a business idea has to be developed which has to be refined step by step during the event. The participants learn together how to design the various components of a business plan with the help of typical IT-based tools for cross-location collaboration. Negotiation and discussion strategies for the selection of the best concepts are practiced across locations using video conferences and other communication tools. You will also learn how the concepts can be used to develop a business plan that is convincing for investors.

In addition to this core topic, competences for intercultural cooperation are deepened in two ways:

  • In the composition of the cross-location groups, attention is paid to an intercultural composition in order to convey intercultural experiences in practical cooperation.
  • Furthermore, the business plan should be developed thematically so that parts of the production / procurement / marketing take place abroad and thus theoretically highlight various aspects of international cooperation.

In addition, the students in the seminar should expand both their soft skills and their media skills by learning to work effectively and efficiently in groups. With regard to virtual collaboration, they learn to deal with typical software programs such as Stud.IP, Breeze, various VC systems, wikis etc.
