On June 30th, 2014 the University of Flensburg was officially proclaimed “Europa-Universität Flensburg”. The title “European University” reflects both the specific location of the university in the German-Danish border region, as well as the University’s aspiration to train and educate a generation, which understands, -lives- and actively develops Europe.
In accordance with its expertise, the main focus in the area of teacher training is on educational sciences. This focus is unique for a Europa-Universität. It offers the chance to communicate European ideas directly to the new generation, who can then spread these ideas further.
Europa-Universität Flensburg is continuing to pursue a long-term international orientation, currently cooperating with more than 80 partner universities in 34 countries.
Academic research at the Europa-Universität Flensburg focuses on the areas of education, economics, environmental sciences/sustainable development and interdisciplinary European studies. In academic research the subject areas justice, sustainability and diversity are interconnected. Academic research and teaching are characterized by intercultural and international comparative perspectives, numerous inter- and transdisciplinary cooperations and a strong link between theory and practice. A special feature is the University’s close cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Flensburg, which is based on the same campus, for instance in the areas of energy and environmental management, SME research and media sciences.
The Europa-Universität Flensburg: A “reform university” on the coast of the Baltic Sea, that wants to open up new horizons and find answers to central future issues.
