Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) is a state-recognised, non-profit university with campuses in Neuruppin, Brandenburg an der Havel, Bernau and Rüdersdorf. It offers model programmes in Human Medicine and Dental Medicine (state exam) as well as Psychology and Psychotherapy pathways, supported by a broad university-clinic network and early practical training.
Brandenburg Medical School Theodor Fontane (MHB) is a state-recognised, non-profit university in the federal state of Brandenburg. It was granted state recognition in 2014 and was founded the same year. MHB combines academic training with patient care through a network approach that links university teaching, research and clinical practice.
The university operates across several locations in Brandenburg, including Neuruppin (main administrative and teaching site), as well as Brandenburg an der Havel, Bernau and Rüdersdorf. Teaching is closely connected to a university clinic network and a broad regional partner structure with cooperating hospitals and teaching practices, enabling practical phases in different medical fields and care settings.
MHB is known for its Brandenburg Model Programme in Human Medicine (state examination). The model curriculum is state recognised and follows the model clause of the German medical licensing regulations. The curriculum is organised in modules and integrates basic sciences and clinical perspectives; practical training starts early and continues through structured clinical placements and the Practical Year (PJ). In addition, MHB offers a model programme in Dental Medicine (state examination) and develops psychology-based pathways that meet the requirements of the reformed psychotherapy training route.
In the psychology track, MHB offers an approbation-compliant Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (depending on programme structure and legal framework). This route is designed to align with the requirements for later professional specialisation in psychotherapy within the German system.
Across programmes, MHB emphasises competence-oriented learning, clinical reasoning, communication and professional responsibility. Graduates typically pursue careers in medical and dental care, clinical psychology and psychotherapy-related pathways (where applicable), and in health research or care development roles, supported by the university’s close integration with healthcare providers across the region.
