The English course for students studying to be teachers as part of a Bachelor's and Master's course is based on the guiding principle of the curricular standards and the goals of teacher training at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. An integral part of the teacher training course is the extended stay abroad in an English-speaking country, lasting at least three months, which is intended primarily to expose students to different cultures and enable them to better understand the complex social processes and interactions. The Department of English and Linguistics at the Johannes Gutenberg University offers a wide range of exchange programs with universities in Great Britain, Ireland, USA, and Canada.
