Программа обучения "Data Science" в Hamburg University of Technology

Data Science

Digitization has changed our everyday lives massively since the introduction of the Internet. Milestones were the invention of digital photography and the development of modern smartphones, which have fundamentally changed our communication channels and forms. The field of data science has developed from these social developments from mathematical statistics and computer science and has become a key technology in science, industry and in everyday life for most people.

Описание программы обучения "Data Science"

A data scientist works in an environment in which a lot of data is generated (e.g. logistics, medicine, energy technology, automotive industry) and is responsible for evaluating it, processing it algorithmically and extracting features from it. The data scientist works in a research-related manner and is therefore always up to date on new developments in the rapidly developing field. Due to the high proportion of IT in the course, the graduates of the course are familiar with all the rules of software design, so that most of the career opportunities of classical IT specialists are open to them.

The bachelor's degree qualifies you for a job and enables you to continue your studies in several master's programs.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Data Science"

Graduates are prepared for a job in industry as well as for a relevant master’s degree through the bachelor’s degree program in Data Science. Due to the increasing digitalization, the competences are needed across industries, so that the graduates have a wide range of professions.

A data scientist typically works in an environment in which large amounts of data are created and is responsible for evaluating them, processing them algorithmically and extracting features from them. He learns the knowledge of his domain and can thus work in an interdisciplinary team with application experts. The data scientist is research-oriented and is therefore always up to date with new developments in the rapidly developing field. Due to the high proportion of computer science in the course, the graduates of the course are familiar with all the rules of software design, so that a large part of the career opportunities of classic computer scientists are open to them.

A successful completion of the Bachelor's program in Data Science at the TUHH enables the inclusion of a Master's degree in Data Science or - after individual coordination of the elective modules - in computer science or applied mathematics.

Учебный план программы обучения "Data Science"

Data Science aims to extract characteristics and knowledge from large amounts of data. This creates a data-driven model that is not derived from physical equations, but directly from the data. To achieve this, the course first teaches the mathematical and statistical basics. Another important component is computer science content, with which the developed mathematical and statistical models are implemented algorithmically. The presentation, processing, provision and storage of large amounts of data (keyword: big data) are topics that are taught during the course. The course offers the opportunity to learn about the application of data science at an early stage. Specialization is possible in the following areas of knowledge: logistics, medicine, mechanics, electrical engineering or materials science. Each of these specializations is rooted at the TU Hamburg, so that in-depth events can be attended during the course. In the second and third year of study, the core areas of data science are taught and the methods learned are tested and consolidated in an internship. The course concludes with a bachelor's thesis, for which a topic from mathematics, computer science or one of the majors can be selected. Since ethical and legal questions play a very important role in society when dealing with data, these topics are also dealt with in depth during the course

The following diagram provides an overview of the proportions of various scientific areas in the Data Science course.
