The research-orientated master’s program builds on the bachelor’s program in physics. It aims to give students a deeper level of knowledge and an understanding of the scientific methods of physics and – depending on the choice of elective courses – of related subjects. Program goals include deepening students’ knowledge of physics, supporting their specialization in the field, and helping them expand their skills, including the ability to perform independent research. Program participants acquire the ability to successfully deal with a variety of scientific and technical problems as generalists in the natural sciences.

Описание программы обучения "Physics"

The master's program provides in-depth and expanded physical knowledge and - at the student's choice - also knowledge of related disciplines. The master’s program focuses on advanced concepts, current methodology and topics and methods of current research. The course imparts independent scientific work in a special area of physics, especially the scientific focus of the department of physics such as nano and surface physics, biophysics, ultra-short-term physics or the physics of complex quantum systems, the rules of good scientific practice and the development of new facts, e.g. B. in research laboratories or theoretical working groups.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Physics"

Graduates have in-depth scientific knowledge and further professional qualifications.

The professional field of master's graduates is wide and ranges from basic and industrial research to application-related development and technical sales to planning, testing and management tasks in industry and administration. The master's degree enables access to a doctorate, especially in scientific and technical areas.

Учебный план программы обучения "Physics"

The master's degree in physics consists of an advanced phase and a research phase in which modules are completed.

The course regulations regulate the structure and course of the course. It contains detailed descriptions of the content and qualification goals of each individual module and an exemplary course plan. The examination regulations define the type and requirements of the examination performance of the modules and the master's examination. In the regulations are the credit points (LP) for each module or each event as well as the workload in hours for the entire study.

The elective area offers the opportunity to get an insight into the current state of research in other areas of physics, additional advanced training in modern research areas of physics or a methodical overview.

The master's thesis should show that the students are able to independently process and present a research task using scientific methods. After successfully completing the study program, the university degree Master of Science (M.Sc.) is awarded.

    Department of Physics
    Free University of Berlin

The department traditionally focuses on basic research. We explore both experimentally and theoretically the topics of biophysics, ultra-short time physics, nano- and surface physics. We deal with fundamental issues that will become relevant for others in the years to come. We reveal insights and formulate models that users, developers, and engineers will transform into product innovations in a few decades.

Our courses give students the core physics content combined with insights from current physical research, which we conduct in our laboratories and at research institutions worldwide. Students experience lecturers who are passionate about physics research.

In the Didactics of Physics, we test and evaluate innovative teaching and learning concepts and develop digital solutions for teaching physics at school. We pass this knowledge on to future physics teachers who we train at our Department.
