From the winter semester 2012/13, the Slavic Seminar in Tübingen will offer a master’s degree in Slavic Studies, where you can choose between three profile areas: A. Slavic Literature and Cultural Studies; B. Slavic Linguistics; C. German-Polish transcultural studies (as a joint course of study at the Universities of Warsaw and Tübingen).

Career prospects

Slavic graduates find work in cultural management, journalism, museums, archives, foreign trade, international organizations, foundations, adult education and many other areas. A few also become literary translators or scientists.

Promotion opportunities

A prerequisite for a doctorate in Slavic philology is a degree with a master's or state examination.

Profile area C in the M.A. Slavistics offers a binational course "German-Polish transcultural studies" funded by the DAAD, which is carried out in cooperation with the University of Warsaw. The study program stipulates that students study at their home university in the first semester, all in Tübingen in the second semester, and all in Warsaw in the third semester. There are also very active Erasmus collaborations with several universities in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Italy as well as university partnerships with the universities of Warsaw, Prague, Moscow (MGU) and St. Petersburg (Heart University).

The Slavic Seminar Tübingen offers a master’s degree in Slavic Studies, where you can choose between three profile areas:

The Profile area Slavic Literature and Cultural Studies includes specialization modules on literary or cultural theory, a free module that can be chosen from other subjects, 2 language courses (upper courses) in the first language (Russian, Polish or Czech) and 2 language courses based on current knowledge in the second language as well as an internship. Our current focal points in literary research include Russian, Czech and Polish literature and culture from the 19th and 20th centuries, transcultural East Central European studies, literary translation and Polish film.

The Profile area Slavic Linguistics includes specialization modules on a sub-area of ​​grammar, a topic from pragmatics and text linguistics and a diachronic phenomenon, a free module that can be chosen from other subjects, 2 language courses (upper courses) each First language (Russian, Polish or Czech) and 2 language courses in the second language based on your previous knowledge as well as an internship. In linguistics, pragmatics and grammar, primarily Russian, Czech and Polish, are currently being investigated.

The Profile area German-Polish transcultural studies in Tübingen and Warsaw includes events on literature, culture and linguistics; Exercises on literary translation, taught by renowned translators from Polish, workshops on creative writing, text editing and literary criticism complete the scientific program. There is also a mandatory internship in a cultural institution in Germany or Poland. The students acquire transcultural skills through a compulsory semester abroad at the University of Warsaw and by studying together with their Polish fellow students. Students receive a degree from both universities.
