Social interest in sustainability-oriented business is greater than ever. Changing consumer behavior, employee expectations and also political regulations and control instruments mean that sustainability in companies must be rethought. Due to the increasing political and social interest in a bio-based economy and in sustainable and competitive use of resources, a growing need for specialists is to be expected. Students are given a broad knowledge of business administration principles, essential basics of statistics, business mathematics and computer science. They are familiar with empirical and analytical methods and combine these with business issues. They apply sustainability concepts for the evaluation and innovation of products, processes and value chains, taking into account business, macroeconomic, ecological and social effects.

Graduates of this course are predestined to deal intensively with sustainability issues in companies. There is a need for sustainability concepts and their implementation in all functional areas such as research and development, purchasing, production, sales, controlling or marketing, as well as in all types of companies (from start-ups to large companies).

The Bachelor's degree program in Sustainable Management and Technology is designed to provide students with basic business knowledge for the development of sustainable technologies, products and processes. Coupled with interdisciplinary skills and social competence, students are thus enabled to support the change towards sustainable companies. Graduates have specialist and methodological knowledge in economics, engineering and natural sciences that is essential for sustainability. Students acquire the basics of setting up, organizing, planning, coordinating, implementing and controlling sustainable systems in areas such as raw material procurement, technology development, production and logistics, marketing and sales or even controlling and financing. Graduates are able to identify business challenges, development potential and deficits with regard to sustainable business and to analyze them taking into account the business and economic as well as technological and scientific framework conditions. Part of the scientific and professional self-image of graduates is to set work and behavioral goals independently and to achieve these goals on the basis of a self-developed schedule. They are aware of the implications of business decisions and reflect on their professional activities against the background of social and ethical responsibility.
