There is hardly a university in Germany that should attach greater importance to the scientific and artistic examination of the media. At the Faculty of Media, established in 1996, humanities scholars and economists, computer scientists and natural scientists meet. Together they take account of the growing importance of the media. The faculty thus practices the philosophy of the entire university on a small scale: Networked thinking and a view beyond the disciplines are in the foreground.
The Weimar study program trains creative and scientifically working media workers. The focus is on project studies - at the interface between teaching and research, students develop creative and analytical solutions to open questions. The modularization of teaching enables the course to be tailored to one's own interests and current developments in professional practice.
A reaction to the changing conditions of an international media market was the introduction of the Bachelor and Master courses in 2003. In addition, there are worldwide contacts to renowned partners: The joint study program "European Media Culture" has existed since 1998 with the Université Lumiére Lyon II.
