The Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies offers the largest, interdisciplinary range of courses and research among the 13 faculties of Bielefeld University. The intensive dovetailing of research and teaching is a particular quality feature of the six subjects in our faculty. English Studies, German as a Foreign Language (DaF), German Studies, Art and Music, as well as Linguistics and Literary Studies offer a large number of diverse specialist and teacher training Bachelor's and Master's courses, which can be combined with each other and with offers from other faculties. From clinical linguistics, literary studies and interdisciplinary media studies to computer linguistics and the classic teaching subjects and philologies such as English, German, Latin and Romance studies to DaF/DaZ, the faculty offers the teaching and research offerings of a large humanities faculty with well over 30 professorships and a good 3000 core subject students.

Our scientists are active in numerous cross-faculty and cross-university research projects and working groups. The excellence and large-scale research networks of CIAS, CITEC and SFB 1288 are particularly visible both nationally and internationally.

Due to the wide range of courses and the globally oriented research with various international partners and cooperations, the faculty is particularly attractive for European and non-European students and scientists. This is impressively demonstrated by the fact that the faculty has by far the highest degree of internationalization at the university.
