The Faculty of History and Social Sciences (GGF) is home to the departments of History, Sociology, Political Science and European Ethnology / Folklore. It is one of the traditional, interdisciplinary and international faculties of the KU. Around 15 professors and numerous academic staff at the GGF provide excellent support for around 450 students.

Under the roof of the GGF are u. a. the Otto von Freising visiting professorship and the Görres research center of the Görres Society and located. The German constitutional and tax lawyer and former federal constitutional judge Prof. Dr. Dres. H. c. Paul Kirchhof and the German architecture historian Prof. Dr. Winfried Nerdinger can enrich the teaching. In addition, the GGF has awarded honorary doctorates to some well-known scientists, including a. Sir Karl R. Popper and Prof. Dr. Ulrich Beck.

The Maximilian Kocher M. A. Foundation and the Professor Sutor Foundation also support research projects, master's theses and dissertations.
