The Faculty of Humanities was formed on October 1st, 2010 by the merger of the previous faculties for history and philosophy, new philology and cultural studies. It contains almost all of the university's humanities institutes and chairs, which are grouped into five departments. As before, the institutes remain the main contact in all subject-related matters.
Today's faculty largely corresponds to the Faculty of Philosophy that was established in 1477 when the university was founded and existed until 1970.
