Since the existing courses were merged into one faculty in 2007, an integral view of design, art, design and architecture has been represented without giving up the autonomy and quality of the individual courses. One focus of the training lies in the design and project work to be developed individually by the students. This is intensively supported by the teachers, including individual supervision. Another quality feature of the teaching lies in the wide range of creative, artistic, manual and technical subjects as well as in the scientific disciplines.

Many of the courses offered in the different courses are open to students of the other design courses. In addition to this interdisciplinary study option, interdisciplinary efforts are expressed in joint projects such as the annual exhibition DIA, the yearbook of the Faculty of Design and the Wismar DIAlog lecture series.
