Justus Liebig University Giessen

Cultures - their stories, their religious beliefs and their media mediation - from antiquity to the present day are the focus of perhaps the most diverse field of JLU. This diversity is due to a wide range of subjects including Protestant Theology, Catholic Theology, Islamic Theology, Classical Archeology, Classical Philologies, History, Art History, Philosophy and Turkology.
Researchers and students in the wide field of history and cultural studies can participate in an excellent scientific environment in Gießen: The JLU, for example, is home to one of the largest and most renowned historical and scientific institutes in the Federal Republic. The Historical Institute has an extensive Eastern European focus and the nationwide unique study program in the history of specialist journalism. The exceptionally close cooperation between Christian theologies and Islamic theology opens up a highly productive theological environment for research and teaching, from which both students and researchers alike benefit. Working groups, collaborative projects and educational cooperations combine extraordinary professional and content diversity into a vibrant and innovative knowledge community. Students can participate in this knowledge community by putting together an individual course of study through a variety of combinations, leading them to professionally qualifying degrees in the bachelor's, master's and teacher's departments.
