More than 2000 students are currently enrolled at the Giessen Faculty of Law. It comprises 18 full professorships; In addition, he has nine professors emeritus, 2 junior professors, 17 honorary professors and 5 non-scheduled professors as well as a changing number of lecturers and academic assistants.
Due to favorable study conditions and a good working atmosphere, the Giessen faculty is one of the law faculties with the shortest study times. In teaching, the department has been reform-oriented since its reopening: The "Giessen model" was characterized above all by streamlining the course, intensive work in small groups, responsible student participation and the establishment of practical connections. Despite all the difficulties that have arisen from the increase in student numbers since 1965 and the ongoing budget cuts, the department adheres to the essential principles of the "Giessen model". There are accompanying small groups in the form of tutorials or working groups for the introductory events in the first semester. In the following semesters, too, important courses are supplemented by working groups. This enables intensive contact between teachers and students. The responsible cooperation of the students is mainly realized in small group work, especially through the use of student tutors.
