The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has developed a mission statement as part of an extensive process, which was unanimously adopted at the meeting of the Faculty Council on December 1, 2010.

Mission statement of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

Excellence in research, teaching and innovation.

• We conduct fundamental and application-oriented research on the methods, processes and systems of mechanical engineering and take a leading position in selected areas.
• Based on excellent research, the faculty provides excellent teaching and strengthens the economic strength of our location through a visible contribution to innovation.
• We offer a wide range of courses and thus guarantee comprehensive training in mechanical engineering.
• We lead the students to a highly qualified German-language degree by offering a basic bachelor's degree and a master’s degree with a degree in engineering in a consecutive study structure. We rely on individual forms of teaching using excellently qualified teaching staff.
• We are increasing the internationality by expanding the English-language courses, international exchange programs and our students' stays abroad.
• Together, the institutes of the faculty shape the path of our ideas to innovations through open and intensive cooperation with one another and with our business partners.
• We promote free research and thus contribute to the development of individual skills.
• Our employees work topic-oriented in the KIT structures, but identify themselves through their affiliation to our faculty.
• In line with the KIT pillars, we are further developing our networks in research, teaching and innovation and expanding them nationally and internationally within KIT.
