Founded in 1409, Leipzig is the second oldest German university with continuous teaching. Until the founding year, the beginnings of medical education can be traced back. Since 1415, the Medical Faculty exists in its own organizational form.

Today, with more than 100 professors, it is the largest of a total of 14 faculties. It is a training center for around 3,000 students of human and dental medicine. In addition, it is one of the largest research institutions in Saxony and deals with almost all scientific areas of medicine. It is being researched at an international level. Close cooperations exist with neighboring faculties as well as with other research institutions - ideal conditions for students, teachers and scientists alike.
