The design department is divided into the three fields of interior design, communication design and media design. Around 1000 students are currently studying at the Design department. 40 professors, 44 lecturers and 12 assistants teach in the design department.

The design department is divided into three disciplines:

  • Interior design
  • Communication design
  • Media design

All three disciplines offer you innovative, varied and practice-oriented bachelor's and master's courses. The latest technologies as well as manual, creative and artistic techniques are equally incorporated into your studies as is the teaching of theoretical and scientific content.
40 professors and 44 lecturers are currently teaching in the design department. Working in small groups characterizes the course of studies and enables an ideal supervisory relationship. The apprenticeship is rounded off by numerous workshops, studios and design laboratories.

In the obligatory practical semester, you will gather your first professional experience and gain insight into your future professional field. Or you can decide to spend a semester abroad at one of our many partner universities to gain experience abroad.

The two disciplines of interior design and communication design are located in Holzstraße, in the center of Mainz, not far from the old town and the Rhine. The Media Design department is based at the Wallstraße location - also very central - only 5 minutes' walk from the main train station.
