With more than 2,950 new enrollees and 62 professorships the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University is one of the biggest faculties of mechanical engineering in Europe.
Mechanical engineering in Aachen may look back on a long tradition and it is as old as the university itself. Since the foundation of the university in 1870 not only the number of students and chairs increased significantly, but also research activities, and cooperation within individual faculties and with other research and industrial facilities have experienced an extraordinary upturn.
With more than 2,400 new enrollees and more than 50 teaching and research facilities as well as currently 63 professorships the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University is one of the biggest faculties of mechanical engineering in Europe. The total budget including associated Fraunhofer and affiliated institutes comprises approx. € 316M. On the one hand this results from structures grown over the course of decades and on the other from the reputation of the faculty, which is based on the outstanding research performances of the individual extremely independently operating teaching and research facilities.
