Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

TU Dortmund University

Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology focusses on “Electrical Power Engineering” and “Information and Communication Technology”.

Both research areas are characterized by their strongly interconnected competences in electrical engineering and information technology. A modern technical system is mostly based on a functional and spatial integration of several knowledge fields. This is illustrated e.g. in energy technology with decentralized, but interconnected sources and sinks, in communication technology in the field of wireless data transfer or in modern vehicles with increasing interconnection at the actuator and sensor level.

Through its research the faculty actively shapes the current future oriented sectors “Industry 4.0”, “Cyber-Physical Systems” and the renewable energy transition. Research linking energy technology and communication technology is an important and unique characteristic at this faculty. Its high research standard reaches the faculty through intensive national as well as international cooperation and a tight collaboration with other faculties of TU Dortmund University. Furthermore the faculty is strongly involved in joint projects with partners from the industry. A team of 140 researchers work at the different chairs, research groups and institutes. In cooperation with external partners from industry and research they are involved in shared projects and working on a wide spectrum of current scientific questions.
