The Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences combines a wide range of subjects, which includes educational and social science, philosophical, theological and artistic disciplines. The focus is on social fields of action of central relevance and topicality in education and culture, politics and society, media and the arts.
The faculty's diverse subjects are characterized by excellent individual and joint research, clear national and international visibility and a high scientific, and at the LMZ also artistic, reputation. This indicates, among other things, success in the acquisition of high-level and competitive third-party funding (in particular DFG, BMBF, EU). Thus, these subjects make essential contributions to the profiling and development of the University of Augsburg.
A multi-faceted range of subjects provides a wide range of competence resources in terms of content and methodology, on the basis of which cooperation is made possible and sustainable. The methodological profile of the faculty's subjects is characterized by theory-based, empirical and / or hermeneutic approaches. On this basis, interdisciplinary and partly transfaculty project-related research associations (research clusters) were established in which researchers cooperate closely in terms of content and method. These clusters have gained significantly in dynamism and weight in recent years, and they have achieved considerable success in acquiring third-party funding.
