The faculty currently has around 190 scientists, including 29 professorships and around 160 academic staff, 35 other employees and over 3,000 students, making it one of the largest social science faculties in Germany. The faculty is primarily based on the Duisburg campus. There are separate rooms on the Essen campus for teacher training; the professorship for didactics in the social sciences and the course office for social science teacher training courses are also located here. Research and teaching follow an interdisciplinary understanding of the social sciences. Within the research, the faculty's third-party funding has continuously increased to over € 5 million p.a. (2015: around € 5.4 million, 2016: around € 7 million).
