The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is the largest of the University's four faculties, and comprises the departments Education, Catholic Theology, Regional Cultural Studies, Governance and Historical Studies, and Language, Texts and Media, which together represent a total of 56 chairs and professorships. Some 6,450 students are currently enrolled in the 25 degree undergraduate and Master's programmes administered by the faculty.

Internationalism and interdisciplinarity

One of the faculty's key concerns is the continuous promotion of internationalism in research and teaching. Many of our students complete part of their degree studies at one of over 130 partner universities in 45 countries. Conversely, we are pleased to welcome numerous international lecturers and students at our faculty year after year. The faculty's international visiting scholars programme has played a substantial role in enhancing our international study options for students.

Of equal importance is the interdisciplinarity of our degree programmes: collaboration across the boundaries of academic disciplines enables us to include in our research and teaching comprehensive analyses of the increasingly complex and multi-layered systems that affect our lives. The interdisciplinary approach to schools of thought, research questions and methodologies is reflected in all of our Bachelor's and Master's programmes.
