Mechatronics Engineer

Ingenieur/in - Mechatronik

Mechatronic engineers develop and construct automated machines and devices that are composed of mechanical, electronic and information technology components. In addition, they work in the production and maintenance organization of mechatronic machines and systems and in customer service and application consulting.

Responsibilities

Mechatronic engineers usually take on leading tasks in the development, construction and planning of mechatronic machines and systems. You plan, calculate and produce intelligently interacting mechanical, electronic and information technology components and integrate them spatially and functionally using methods from the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science. You plan, control and optimize production processes, ensure quality and ensure that mechatronic equipment is operational. In addition, they manage the assembly and commissioning of mechatronic systems. In technical sales, mechatronics engineers develop offers and submit them to customers. They train users in application consulting or customer service and advise companies on the use of mechatronic systems. They can also work as consulting engineers or appraisers.

Typical Places of Work

Mechatronic engineers find employment

  • in industrial companies in mechanical and plant engineering, vehicle and electrical engineering or in companies that produce industrial process control equipment
  • at manufacturers of IT devices, office machines or medical technology devices
  • in engineering offices for technical specialist planning
  • in research and development

Salary

The salary level for Mechatronics Engineer in Germany is: from 5003 up to 6324 EUR per month

Why is?

Mechatronic engineers develop and construct automated machines and devices that are composed of mechanical, electronic and information technology components. In addition, they are active in the production and maintenance organization of mechatronic machines and systems and in customer service and application consulting.

Analysis, concept and implementation

Mechatronic engineers develop devices, vehicles, machines and production facilities, e.g. Industrial and service robots or trackless automatic transport devices and machines. All these products have in common that they contain mechanical, electrical and electronic components and systems that are complexly interconnected in a very small space and that work together with the help of hardware and software systems. The increasing integration of these components requires engineers to take a holistic and interdisciplinary approach. The inclusion of nanotechnology plays an important role here, because it enables miniaturized mechatronic systems to be developed and optimized, e.g. Hard disk storage, digital projection storage or mechatronic orthopedic systems. The production process of additive manufacturing (3-D printing) is also gaining in importance, especially for prototype construction and small series.

Mechatronic engineers define and specify the interaction of the mechanical, electronic as well as automation and information processing device components and bring them to production readiness. They are also involved in the development and testing of the required software. If you work in component management, you support the research and development departments with regard to component selection, work on development and sample processes for assemblies, create test reports and participate in the component approval process. In addition, mechatronics engineers plan, organize and optimize work processes. You monitor the production, assembly and commissioning of automated production and manufacturing systems as well as networked production systems. They also take into account the general economic conditions such as costs and time expenditure. Your responsibility can range from participation in projects to independent planning and implementation of extensive tasks in design and production. In order to be able to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0, they must also be able to accompany processes from the product idea to recycling.

Other possible uses

Mechatronics engineers have many fields of work open to them, e.g. in mechanical and plant engineering, in the vehicle industry, in information technology or for manufacturers of medical, precision mechanical or optical instruments and devices. There you can take on tasks in the fields of research and development, project planning, construction and simulation, trial and error, production and project management. Mechatronic engineers are also employed in application-related customer advice, customer service and sales of mechatronic products. In addition, further employment opportunities open up in scientific institutions, at testing and expert offices, in engineering offices, in the public service and as freelance engineers.
