Applied Computer Science, B.Sc.
Modern computer science is expanding to include ever more fields of application. Particular challenges are posed by the fields of culture and media, fields which are characterized by their content and media-related demands on the operations of data processing. For this reason, particular professional importance is being placed on a form of applied computer science which deals with these fields.

The bachelor’s degree programme in Applied Computer Science encourages students to understand the demands of various fields of application in order to be able to efficiently solve problems in these areas using modern information technologies. In their studies of computer science and applied computer science, students receive the skills required to do just this.
What you study
Building upon fundamentals courses, focus areas in applied computer science can be selected. Possible focus areas are cognitive systems, cultural computing, media informatics, human-computer interaction and smart environments. In computer science, modules in theoretical informatics, communications systems, distributed and mobile systems, software technology and programming languages as well as privacy and security belong to the study program.
The full curriculum and the programme's parameters are part of programme selection: we compare them with your profile.

Typical areas of employment for in Bamberg educated Applied Computer Scientists are:
- The private sector as well as the public sector with tasks in document and content management. Broadly formulated, these tasks are part of an informative supported knowledge management.
- Working in businesses of classic or electronic media: Here the main tasks is in informative support of content creation (e.g. editorial systems) and medial realisation (e.g. Crossmedia-Publishing).
- Tourism and sports are fields in which many new information technologies like mobile location based services are used.
- The private and public culture sector (from Museums to archives to preservations of monuments): Here the development and consulting for implementing specialist’s information systems is an important task.
One strengths of our graduates lay in their broad education in methods of applied computer science. They should be able to combine methods of geoinformatics with media informatics in case of touristic problems. A one-sided specialisation, e.g. only in culture informatic, would not be enough for the current requirements on the job market. Also, the future perspectives would not be as good.

How to apply
You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.
Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:

- ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late
An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.
StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.
If your level is not enough yet
The two most common stoppers are a language level below the requirement and a certificate without direct admission. Both can be solved, but they take months — plan them now, not after a rejection.
