Chemistry, M.Sc.
Graduates of the Master's program in Chemistry possess a broad theoretical and practical foundation and relevant knowledge of materials and methods. They are able to address chemistry-related questions in a scientifically sound and critical manner, solve the challenges they face independently or in an interdisciplinary manner, and thus contribute responsibly to the further development of the discipline. At the same time, they are able to recognize the importance of connections to chemistry-related scientific fields and utilize them profitably. In addition to their subject-specific knowledge, they possess key career-relevant skills such as communication and teamwork skills, as well as effective project planning and work organization.
By obtaining the Master of Science degree, our graduates have a good starting point for further qualifications, particularly doctoral studies. This increases their chances of entering an independent and self-reliant career. Following our university's tradition, our faculty maintains contacts with leading chemical companies in Germany, specifically for your benefit.

Will I get in
Admission goes through an aptitude assessment: the university checks how well the subjects, credits and grades of your previous education fit the programme. There is no fixed cut-off — the assessment is comparative.
How the selection works and how strong the competition is — we go through it against your certificate when we select programmes for you.
Programme selection →What you study
The program has a modular structure. The course offerings are spread over three semesters. The fourth semester is reserved for the completion of the Master's thesis. It generally includes elective modules totaling at least 70 credit points (ECTS). Individual focus is determined within the module pillars. 20 to 30 credit points (ECTS) must be achieved in each of the "Materials Chemistry" (M) and "Biologically Oriented Chemistry" (B) modules. Modules in the "Cross-Sectional Field" (C) module pillar each count half toward the credit points to be achieved in pillars M and B. In the "Practical Application" (P) module column, modules totaling ten credit points must be selected, while in the "General Education Modules" (G) module column, modules totaling five to ten credit points must be selected.
The full curriculum and the programme's parameters are part of programme selection: we compare them with your profile.

Check the requirementsHow to get into this programme
- 1Check your certificate and its recognitionDirect admission, a year at a university at home, or Studienkolleg first — this decides the whole plan.
- 2Documents and translationsCertified translations of the certificate and transcript, an APS if required. 3–4 weeks.
- 3Application via uni-assist until 30.11uni-assist checks documents for 4–6 weeks — send them well before the deadline.
- 4Admission, visa, movingPlan 2–3 months for the visa and the blocked account in parallel.
How to apply
You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.
Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:
- ×incorrectly made certified copies and translations
- ×a wrong set of documents
- ×the application submitted the wrong way
- ×errors or gaps in the application form
- ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late
An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.
StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.
If your level is not enough yet
The two most common stoppers are a language level below the requirement and a certificate without direct admission. Both can be solved, but they take months — plan them now, not after a rejection.
