Will I get in

The programme has an admission restriction: the average grade of your certificate, converted to the German scale, decides. The cut-off changes every year — last year's value shows the order of magnitude, not a promise.

What you study

Students of the Fine Arts program are initially admitted to a two-semester study period in the foundation year (known as "O-Bereich") at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (see link "Orientierungsbereich"). Supervised by their professors and numerous instructors, the students of one admission year work together with those admitted in the same winter semester in the Art Education program in different fields of art. They participate in the course "Introduction to Art History / Art Science" in the first semester and an introductory event in another subject of art-related sciences in the second semester. At the end of the first year of study, the presentation of the produced works (known as O-Bereich examination) and the application for a studio study place in a class are required.

How to get into this programme

  1. 1
Check your certificate and its recognition
Direct admission, a year at a university at home, or Studienkolleg first — this decides the whole plan.
  2. 2
    Documents and translations
Certified translations of the certificate and transcript, an APS if required. 3–4 weeks.
  3. 3
Application directly to the university until 11.03
Send the documents well before the deadline — an incomplete application cannot be completed after it.
  4. 4
    Admission, visa, moving
Plan 2–3 months for the visa and the blocked account in parallel.

How to apply

You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.

Apply yourself

Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:

  • ×incorrectly made certified copies and translations
  • ×a wrong set of documents
  • ×the application submitted the wrong way
  • ×errors or gaps in the application form
  • ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late

An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.
