Management and Technology, B.Sc.
Bachelor's in Management and Technology at TUM School of Management, Germany — a dual-discipline program that runs business and engineering education in parallel rather than treating one as a minor complement to the other. Students choose a technology specialisation at enrollment — mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, chemistry, or medicine — and study it concurrently with a full management curriculum covering economics, finance, strategy, and quantitative methods throughout the degree.

Will I get in
The programme has an admission restriction: the average grade of your certificate, converted to the German scale, decides. The cut-off changes every year — last year's value shows the order of magnitude, not a promise.
- ✓Those genuinely interested in both business and a specific technical or scientific field — not as a compromise between two paths, but as a deliberate combination
- ✓Those who want to understand how technology is developed, not just how to sell or manage it
- ✓Those drawn to industries where technical literacy is a competitive advantage: automotive, pharma, industrial manufacturing, tech startups, consulting for engineering firms

- ✓Those who enjoy quantitative problem-solving and are comfortable with mathematics as a regular part of their studies
- ✓Those who want the credibility of a degree from one of Europe's top technical universities in a business-facing role
- ✓Those considering careers that require translating between engineers and executives — product management, strategy, business development in tech-intensive sectors
- ✓International applicants comfortable studying in either English or a bilingual (English/German) environment, depending on the chosen specialisation
- —Admission is genuinely competitive: the selection process involves a weighted GPA calculation and, for applicants in the intermediate range, an additional admissions test. Only strong academic profiles are admitted directly without the test.
- —The 100% English Track is limited to the Computer Engineering specialisation; all other technology tracks follow the Bilingual (German/English) structure, meaning some comfort with German is practically beneficial even if not formally required.
- —Munich is one of the most expensive cities in Germany — accommodation, transport, and daily living costs are significantly above the German average and should be budgeted carefully, especially for self-funded international students.

- —The program's dual academic load — full management curriculum plus a technology track — is intensive. Students should expect a demanding workload, particularly in the first two semesters when the mathematical core is heaviest.
- —International applicants with non-EU secondary qualifications must go through a pre-screening process before their application can be assessed, which adds an administrative step to the timeline.
- —A bachelor's degree in management from TUM is a strong credential, but many graduates in Germany and internationally continue to a master's degree to reach senior professional roles; this path is worth planning for from the start.
How the selection works and how strong the competition is — we go through it against your certificate when we select programmes for you.
Programme selection →About the programme
Management and Technology at TU München's School of Management is built on the premise that tomorrow's business leaders must be fluent in the language of technology — and vice versa. Rather than adding a light survey of management to an engineering degree, the program runs both disciplines in parallel across six semesters, giving graduates genuine expertise in both areas.

The management core covers the full spectrum of business education: microeconomics, marketing, finance, accounting, strategy, law, and operations research. Quantitative methods are central from the start, with two full mathematics courses dedicated to economic and natural science applications, supplemented by introductory data science and statistical thinking.
The technology dimension is chosen by each student at enrollment. Six distinct tracks allow deep specialisation: Maschinenwesen (mechanical engineering), Elektro- und Informationstechnik (electrical engineering and information technology), Chemie (chemistry), Informatik (computer science), Computer Engineering, and Medizin (medicine). Technology coursework begins in the second semester and runs concurrently with the management curriculum throughout the degree.
Elective areas in the management half allow further focus in one of seven directions: Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Strategy & Leadership, Operations & Supply Chain Management, Finance & Accounting, Economics, or Law & Policy.
A distinctive structural feature is the Projektstudium — a 12-ECTS team project (minimum two students) that may be practical or research-oriented, giving students the experience of working on real problems in an interdisciplinary setting before graduation.
The program is offered in two language modes: a Bilingual Track using both German and English across modules, and a 100% English Track available exclusively within the Computer Engineering specialisation. The bachelor's thesis, also worth 12 ECTS, is typically completed in the final semester and represents an independent contribution at the intersection of management and the chosen technology field.
What you study
Semesters 1–4: Core Foundation
The first four semesters establish the parallel structure of the program, with management and technology coursework running simultaneously.
The full curriculum and the programme's parameters are part of programme selection: we compare them with your profile.
Pick programmesCareer
Graduates are positioned for roles that require both technical understanding and business acumen — a profile that is actively sought by internationally operating companies. Typical employers include technology firms, automotive groups, pharmaceutical companies, management consultancies, and financial services organisations. Named partners include BMW, Siemens, and Allianz.

Career paths commonly include roles in technology management, strategy, product management, operations, marketing, and auditing — particularly in sectors where engineering and business decisions intersect. The TUM Management Alumni network and university-organised career events with corporate partners support the transition from study to employment.

The procedure and the set of documents depend on your certificate. We check the university's requirements against your documents and give you a list: what to submit, how to certify and translate it, where and when to apply.
Check the requirementsHow to get into this programme
- 1Check your certificate and its recognitionDirect admission, a year at a university at home, or Studienkolleg first — this decides the whole plan.
- 2German up to C1 and a certificateDSH or TestDaF has to be passed before you apply.
- 3Documents and translationsCertified translations of the certificate and transcript, an APS if required. 3–4 weeks.
- 4Application via uni-assist until 15.07uni-assist checks documents for 4–6 weeks — send them well before the deadline.
- 5Admission, visa, movingPlan 2–3 months for the visa and the blocked account in parallel.
How to apply
You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.
Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:
- ×incorrectly made certified copies and translations
- ×a wrong set of documents
- ×the application submitted the wrong way
- ×errors or gaps in the application form
- ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late
An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.
StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.
If your level is not enough yet
The two most common stoppers are a language level below the requirement and a certificate without direct admission. Both can be solved, but they take months — plan them now, not after a rejection.
