Will I get in

The programme has an admission restriction: the average grade of your certificate, converted to the German scale, decides. The cut-off changes every year — last year's value shows the order of magnitude, not a promise.

What you study

Multimedia and communication means diversity. In the media sector of the future, great opportunities are opening up for those who, in addition to their specialist field, can also cover the fundamental fields of activity of the media sector. This diversity is reflected in the course of studies. Building on a broad basic education in the first two semesters, a gradual specialisation takes place in the third, fifth and sixth semesters.
Basics and Orientation The basic training in the first two semesters imparts the basic knowledge in all areas relevant for an activity in the media. Multimedia and Communication takes into account the diversity of the media sector. In addition to technical, design and informatics fundamentals, the areas of content, film + sound and 2D/3D graphics are also considered. The 3rd semester offers a deepening of these basics and a first opportunity for specialisation based on one's own talents and areas of interest. From a broad offer 4 modules are to be selected from at least 3 of the ranges organization, diagram, film + clay/tone, technology, computer science and contents. Thus a first specialization and orientation in the different disciplines of the multimedia area takes place. This offer is also oriented towards current developments in the media sector. The 3rd semester is also suitable for a stay at a partner university abroad. We also offer a wide range of optional modules. Possible compulsory elective modules are e.g. (offer may change):
  • Web CMS and Web Publishing
  • Media didactics and e-learning
  • Interactive media installation
  • DRI Photography
  • Multimedia projects
  • University Magazine Kaspar
  • Electronic Music

The diversity of the studies is reflected in the career prospects. The employers particularly appreciate the broad basic knowledge and practical skills of our graduates. Combined with the specialisation in the main study period, all career fields in the media sector are opened up.

Occupational fields

Exemplary professional fields are the television and radio sector with reportage and production in the picture and sound sector, but our graduates also take on activities in the technical environment here.

Computer graphics and animation play an increasingly important role in our media landscape as well as in research and business. From photorealistic visualization and special effects for film and television to the game industry, the spectrum in this area ranges.

Especially in the print publishing sector, which is increasingly growing together with online publishing, there are great career opportunities. The ability to take on content from conception through production to publication on the various media as text, image and moving image is highly valued.

How to apply

You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.

Apply yourself

Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:

  • ×incorrectly made certified copies and translations
  • ×a wrong set of documents
  • ×the application submitted the wrong way
  • ×errors or gaps in the application form
  • ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late

An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.

StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.

If your level is not enough yet

The two most common stoppers are a language level below the requirement and a certificate without direct admission. Both can be solved, but they take months — plan them now, not after a rejection.
