The Feststellungsprüfung is an official state examination that certifies eligibility for higher education at any German university. Passing this exam grants you the right to enroll in degree programs across Germany. It comprises both written and oral components, tailored to the subject focus you’ve chosen.

Most students prepare for the Feststellungsprüfung by attending a Studienkolleg for up to one year. During this time, you receive specialized instruction in your chosen course track. State-run Studienkollegs charge only semester fees but require an entrance test, whereas private Studienkollegs have tuition fees but no admission exam.
