The Master’s program in Applied Philosophy at the University of Bremen combines philosophical foundations with the analysis of concrete questions from science, society, politics and the public sphere. It is aimed at graduates who want to apply philosophical methods in interdisciplinary contexts and work on complex problems in a critical, well-argued and academically grounded way.
The core of the Applied Philosophy master’s program is the philosophical engagement with questions that come to philosophy from other academic disciplines or from society. The program combines models of thought from the philosophical tradition with more recent analytical methods and further develops Bremen’s interdisciplinary philosophical profile.
“Application” has a double meaning here: first, many of the questions come from outside philosophy; second, Applied Philosophy develops its own methods while remaining closely connected to philosophy as basic research.
