Undergraduate Winter Semester

The main task of architects is the planning, drafting, design and construction of buildings.

The focus of the architecture studies at the TU Darmstadt is the creative design. Further constructive, artistic and historical-scientific areas are grouped around this. Systematic transfer of knowledge and creative and playful elements are thus intertwined. Building construction and urban development are understood as a unit. The areas are: historical basics, design and presentation, construction, building technology, building planning and urban planning.

The focus of teaching each semester is a central design project to which the majority of the other courses in this semester are directly or indirectly related. This project is designed alternately by the areas of spatial design, building construction, building theory and urban planning.

The architecture department is organized into six specialist groups: Historical Basics, Design and Representation, Construction, Building Planning, Urban Planning, Building Technology. These cover the broad spectrum of teaching and research topics at the Department of Architecture at the TU Darmstadt and reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the architecture education.
