Geodesy and Geoinformation Science

Technische Universität Berlin

Graduate Winter Semester

Geodesy and geoinformation engineering is a diversified, highly mathematical and scientific engineering discipline. Her area of responsibility deals with the acquisition, modeling and processing of spatial data. Analysis, structuring and visualization of this geodata forms the foundation for the interpretation and design of habitats.

Geodesy lays the foundations for Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The development and application of methods and techniques of terrestrial surveying, satellite positioning and compensation calculation form the basis u.a. for navigation, routing and location based services. Geoinformation technology is concerned with consistent, consistent management and the efficient use and analysis of geospatial data stored in spatial databases. Neighboring disciplines such as photogrammetry and remote sensing provide additional sources of information that feed into spatial analysis. Combined with statistical data, all these disciplines provide the tools for detailed 3D / 4D modeling of our real world.

The breadth of current geodetic research offers graduates a broad range of topics, ranging from microscopic medical applications, to vehicle navigation and environmental monitoring contributions, to space mission planning for exploration and mapping of alien planets.

The two-year English-language master's program 'Geodesy and Geoinformation Science' at TU Berlin is based on these scientific questions. Based on in-depth theoretical knowledge, students will learn how to develop and apply surveying and satellite geodesy, planetary and Earth system research and computer vision techniques, and how to model and analyze our environment using geographic information systems (GIS).
