Plastic, Major in Ceramics

Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle

Undergraduate Winter Semester

Opening the door of a ceramic kiln after the firing process brings surprise, disillusionment, joy or disappointment. Even over a long period of time, feelings and insights do not wear out. Expert knowledge and experiment paired with each other make the handling of various ceramic materials and ceramic techniques a lively, pleasurable game and the search for a suitable expression of artistic concerns.

A good vessel can be a good plastic. In the study of ceramics at the BURG, the unique vessel, the object, the ceramic sculpture and the installation are of equal importance.

Working with ceramic materials is the focus of the course, including the combination with other materials. The contents grow with the capacity of the form. The modeling of the material is examined and critically questioned in terms of its expression and its plastic value.

The study of ceramics should make you want to take on challenges and stimulate discussion among the students and beyond. The aim is for talents and abilities to manifest themselves in personal positions and in individual artistic attitudes.
