At Flensburg University of Applied Sciences, we are hiring on a permanent, full-time basis:

Laboratory Engineer for Food Technology (d/m/w)

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, conduct, and follow up on lab classes in food technology and chemical food analytics
  • Guide students in hands-on work with food-industry processing equipment and in analytical procedures
  • Support project work as well as term papers and theses
  • Take technical responsibility (maintenance, care, operation) for the modern food/meat technology lab with a complete industrial processing chain
  • Apply classic instrumental methods to determine key quality parameters (e.g., moisture, fat, protein, sugar, carbohydrates, salt, nitrite, pH value)
  • Maintain, service, and calibrate analytical instruments
  • Contribute to the development, calibration, and validation of new analytical methods in line with applicable standards
  • Ensure occupational safety, hygiene, and technical readiness by implementing and monitoring safety, hygiene, and environmental standards
  • Create work instructions, SOPs, risk assessments, and hygiene plans

Requirements and expectations

Requirements for the advertised position include:

  • Completed university degree in food technology, meat technology (preferred), food chemistry, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience in industrial food processing and chemical analytics
  • Solid knowledge in working with food processing equipment, packaging technology, and analytical instruments
  • Knowledge of hygiene management, occupational safety, and food law (LMIV, LMHV, HACCP)
  • Independent, structured way of working and strong technical affinity
  • Enjoy working with students, with teaching skills and strong communication abilities
  • Confident use of MS Office; ideally experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
  • Proof of very good German skills, comparable to at least CEFR level C1
  • Proof of English language skills at least CEFR level B2, or willingness to obtain this within one year
  • Confident demeanor, team spirit, and strong organizational skills


In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • Initial experience in industrial processing of meat and meat products
  • Vocational training in a food-processing field
  • Experience in instructing and training others
