The Deutsche Bundesbank is an integral part of the ESCB and works as one of the world's largest central banks in the public interest. Our tasks are monetary policy, banking supervision, financial stability, cash and cashless payments.

We are looking for a numismatic collection in the cash area at our headquarters in  Frankfurt am Main as soon as possible

Museologist

The numismatic collection of the Deutsche Bundesbank is a universal collection of monetary symbols with no temporal or spatial restrictions, the focus of which is on the history of German coins and money. Today it includes around 90,000 coins (from antiquity to the present) and around 260,000 banknotes (14th century to the present). She enjoys a high reputation both nationally and internationally. In our money museum, individual objects can be seen both in a permanent exhibition and in special exhibitions.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Your team will look after the numismatic collection of the Deutsche Bundesbank. They process, catalog and digitize the inventories, technically manage the inventory database and develop it further. You will also support the collection curator and contribute to the further expansion of the numismatic collection with your suggestions. You will also work on the conception and implementation of exhibition projects and answer technical inquiries from Germany and abroad.

Requirements and expectations

  • Accredited bachelor's or equivalent degree in the field of museology, history or a comparable subject
  • Ideally professional experience in collection work; Knowledge of numismatics and monetary history is an advantage
  • Good knowledge of collection management and exhibitions
  • Basic knowledge of conservation
  • Experience in dealing with collection databases and collection digitization
  • Ideally experience with image editing programs (e.g. Photoshop)
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Independent and at the same time team-oriented way of working
  • Very good knowledge of German and good English; Knowledge of other foreign languages is an advantage
