The Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI gemeinnützige GmbH) is an economic research institute. The HWWI is privately financed. We do this by identifying the future issues of a global society and analyzing relevant socio-economic correlations. The focus of our work is the transfer of science and research into the practice of business and politics as well as the implementation of scientific knowledge in recommendations for action. Basic research, applied and practice-oriented research for politics and companies as well as the education of young scientists are the foundations of the HWWI. Valuable science, open-ended research and methodological pluralism characterize our work.

As far as possible, the HWWI will occupy a position at the Hamburg office on 01.10.2019 as a research associate (full time) to supervise the HWWI Commodity Price Index and to collaborate on research projects in the field of environmental and resource economics.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Regular calculation and evaluation of the HWWI commodity price index
  • dissemination of results in the form of press releases, presentations and scientific articles
  • Participation in a multi-annual EU interdisciplinary research project on resource use
  • Participation in research applications and profiling in the field of environmental and resource economics

Requirements and expectations

  • Successful study of economics or related disciplines, ideally with a focus on environmental, resource or energy economics
  • Degree: Master (or equivalent), Doctorate favorable
  • Affinity to Data Analysis and Quantitative Methods
  • Confident handling of the MS-Office products as well as practical experience working with the programs STATA and / or R
  • Safe command of German and English spoken and written
  • High communication skills and readiness for interdisciplinary work
