Marine Biologist in Germany
Marine biologists can work in a variety of fields. In scientific research, they investigate chemical, physical, biological and geological processes in the ocean and their interaction with the seabed and the atmosphere. Important topics include overfishing, marine pollution and the effects of global warming and climate change. They publish their research results. At universities, they teach students, prepare lectures and seminars, correct written work and take exams. Independent scientific activities usually only open up after a master's degree and a doctorate. In the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, they mainly deal with how natural maritime substances can be extracted and used, e.g. in medicines or cosmetics. For environmental authorities or fisheries research institutes, they carry out fishery ecological studies or analyze fish stocks in certain areas. For planned construction projects or aquaculture in coastal and marine areas, they check their environmental compatibility, among other things. As experts, they work in the field of environmental analysis, for example.
