Frequently asked questions

Can I have one insurance for the whole time?
Usually not: for the visa — a private incoming insurance until enrolment; on a language course — a private one, in a Studienkolleg — usually too; at a university under 30 — the statutory student insurance. The switch comes with the enrolment.
Will a travel insurance do for the visa?
For the visa an incoming or travel insurance for the first months, until the statutory one starts, is usually accepted, with cover of at least €30,000. The policy must not exclude long stays; the exact requirements are set by your consulate.
What if I am 30 or older?
The student tariff runs until the end of the semester in which you turn 30, beyond that only in exceptions. We compare private and voluntary statutory insurance — each has its own consequences for later.
How much is the statutory insurance?
The student contribution is set by law; in 2026 it is from €141.16 a month including long-term care insurance. The funds differ in their additional contribution.
Why is it free through you?
The insurers pay us as their agent, the statutory funds through a licensed broker. Your tariff stays the same.
