From the outset till today

Münster University of Applied Sciences was founded on 1 August 1971 after the merger of public and private schools of construction and engineering and vocational training institutions. Back then, the student population was around 2,300; today, almost 14,000 young people are pursuing one of our 87 degree programmes, 38 of which are Master's programmes - a high proportion compared to other universities of applied sciences. In addition, around 110 cooperative doctoral candidates are working towards a doctorate, supported by our Doctoral Studies Programme.

Over the years, Münster University of Applied Sciences has evolved into a practice-oriented, international and interdisciplinary university of applied sciences. Teaching staff and students contribute equally to the successful transfer of scientific findings to practice. This pays off: our establishment is now one of Germany's largest and most successful universities of applied sciences.

Research and teaching at the service of society

With our educational programmes and research work, we place ourselves at the service of society. In this respect, quality is the foundation on which all of our working areas are based.

Quality sets the standards for our teaching, with a wide range of programmes consistent with the needs of the market. Quality is the foundation for outstanding research success − we have the highest rate of external funding at any German university of applied sciences. And quality is the hallmark of a finely tuned system of internal resource management.

In 2011, Münster University of Applied Sciences became Germany's first system-accredited university of applied sciences. Our quality management and exchange processes with practitioners have earned us several awards, including from the Stifterverband für die deutsche Wissenschaft.

Taken together, these quality attributes shape the image of our modern, high-performance and customer-oriented university.
