Research profile

Scientific and artistic research are among the core tasks of University of Music and Theater Munich. As individual research at the institutes, in permanent facilities, in temporary projects and conferences as well as as part of our doctoral studies, it is firmly anchored in everyday university life, and the participation of students through research-based learning is particularly important to us.

The proximity to art practice enables research fields to be penetrated that remain closed to purely theoretical approaches. At the same time, impulses from research enrich artistic practice. Interdisciplinarity and the transfer of results to the public are fundamental building blocks of our understanding of research.

The focus of the research work at our university is on the areas of music and dictatorship, interpretation research, artificial intelligence in the cultural sector as well as music psychology and music medicine. Visiting scientists, university partnerships and conferences promote international exchange.

The library, the university archives and the Ben Haim Research Center provide infrastructure and resources as well as source material such as collections, partial estates and archives.
