Stage 2. Preparation for Admission

II. Preparation: Get ready to win a place at a German university

We work on mandatory and bonus criteria so you rank among the top applicants

Why preparation matters

Timely, high-quality preparation is the safest path to admission in Germany

Success is built on four pillars: language, academics, funding and motivation. These take time — start early to maximise your chances.

Mandatory requirements

Universities set strict criteria for education and often extracurriculars; details vary by programme and profile. Everything must be submitted on time and correctly formatted.

Beyond the minimum

Meeting the minimum lets you apply; standing out requires extra achievements that push your ranking and ease your study start.

Preparing for admission in Germany

Stage 2. Preparation

Proper and timely preparation allows you to apply to the most prestigious and competitive study programs with confidence. This determines not only your admission success, but also the quality of education and your future career prospects, including financial success.

  • 6

    Language Preparation

    1–1.5 years before admission

You can study in Germany in German or English, sometimes both are required. It’s not enough to learn the language — you must also obtain the required certificate. Timely preparation ensures you meet language requirements.

  • 7

    Academic Preparation

    1–1.5 years before admission

The main selection criteria are your grades. For bachelor’s admission, average grade and subjects matter; for master’s, ECTS credits must match program requirements. Careful planning of your academic record increases your chances.

  • 8

    Financial Preparation

    2–3 months before admission

Although education in Germany is free, you must prove financial resources for your visa. The most common way is a blocked account. Prepare in advance to avoid delays in obtaining your student visa.

  • 9

    Additional Requirements

    1–1.5 years before admission

Some programs require internships, tests (TestAS, GMAT, GRE), recommendations, or portfolios. Prepare early to strengthen your application and stand out among other candidates.
