Applied Computer Science – Systems Engineering, B.Sc.
In addition to computer science, the four-semester core study program includes above all mathematics and business administration. A 2-semester specialization study will then be completed in one of the key areas Network Systems Engineering or Software Systems Engineering. In the chosen field of specialization, the Bachelor thesis is prepared in German or in a foreign language generally accepted by the Examination Board.

Will I get in
The programme has an admission restriction: the average grade of your certificate, converted to the German scale, decides. The cut-off changes every year — last year's value shows the order of magnitude, not a promise.
How the selection works and how strong the competition is — we go through it against your certificate when we select programmes for you.
Programme selection →About the programme
The bachelor's degree program "Applied Computer Science - Systems Engineering" aims at an application-oriented and practice-oriented education for the different fields of activity in the field of computers, internet, software and e-business, whereby the foundations in the field of mathematics and theoretical computer science meet the requirements of a demanding Studies are coordinated. In addition, communication technology skills and knowledge from the field of computer science, business information technology and business administration. Thus, the graduates are qualified for the increasingly important interface functions in the economy, in which information and communication aspects must be considered jointly with engineering, economic and organizational boundary conditions. Already from the first semester, the students work practically with current technologies and learn in the course of their studies common software tools for the different tasks. The specializations Network Systems Engineering and Software Systems Engineering cover the entire spectrum from network infrastructure to operational application systems.
What you study
The bachelor's program is divided into core study and specialization study.

Bachelor with the specialization "Network Systems Engineering
The qualification objectives of this specialization are to understand the functionality and properties of computer networks in order to plan their use for given applications. This is especially true for applications that require computer networks as their "backbone"; the adaptation and expansion of computer networks for specific application requirements, the planning of computer network capacity, evaluation and vulnerability analysis of existing computer networks and further developments taking into account compatibility, performance, costs and reliability of computer networks. The occupational field can be seen among manufacturers and users of computer networks; The graduates can work in projects for the development of network-based applications, work as an expert on computer networks and can advise the use of computer networks as decision-makers.

Bachelor with the specialization "Software Systems Engineering"
The qualification objectives of this specialization are to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge about the development of software-intensive products and systems. This includes knowledge in the areas of requirements engineering, software design, component-based software implementation, software quality assurance, software maintenance and software evolution as well as software production models and costs, software development processes and their improvement. The professional field is software development, software maintenance and evolution, the development of software-intensive products and systems (especially embedded systems); Graduates can be used in software development projects in various roles, but also as experts in the design of complex systems with significant software content and as software publisher consultants.

The procedure and the set of documents depend on your certificate. We check the university's requirements against your documents and give you a list: what to submit, how to certify and translate it, where and when to apply.
Check the requirementsHow to get into this programme
- 1Check your certificate and its recognitionDirect admission, a year at a university at home, or Studienkolleg first — this decides the whole plan.
- 2German up to C1 and a certificateDSH or TestDaF has to be passed before you apply.
- 3Documents and translationsCertified translations of the certificate and transcript, an APS if required. 3–4 weeks.
- 4Application via uni-assist until 15.01uni-assist checks documents for 4–6 weeks — send them well before the deadline.
- 5Admission, visa, movingPlan 2–3 months for the visa and the blocked account in parallel.
How to apply
You can submit the application yourself or with our help — the university decides on admission in both cases.
Applications go through the university's portal or uni-assist. Typical mistakes:
- ×incorrectly made certified copies and translations
- ×a wrong set of documents
- ×the application submitted the wrong way
- ×errors or gaps in the application form
- ×the application submitted at the wrong time — too early or too late
An incomplete or incorrectly prepared application is excluded from the selection — it can no longer be corrected after the deadline.
StudyInFocus does not represent the university and does not influence the admission decision. We do not sell study places and do not guarantee admission — this is a service for preparing and submitting documents on the applicant's side.
If your level is not enough yet
The two most common stoppers are a language level below the requirement and a certificate without direct admission. Both can be solved, but they take months — plan them now, not after a rejection.
